Gallery Walls

To have a gallery wall or not to? That is my question. I love the look of gallery walls and have always enjoyed seeing them in other people's homes; it's fun to check out the pictures and memorabilia all in one place.

The reason I pose this gallery wall conundrum is...you guessed it, I have one big wall that is just screaming for a change. And since you know I live in a studio, I really only have four walls to play with, and seeing that three of my walls are either a closet, a large window, or the entry way to my kitchen. So the one wall it is. Could a gallery wall work?

THE wall in question
Looks much smaller than it is, but in total it's over 13ft.

Here are my thoughts-

Do the traditional: same color frames throughout and it must go all the way to the ceiling...

This picture comes with a how-to.

Or do eclectic with a mixture of frames and art work...

Or there's shabby chic, with mirrors and empty frames...

Or paint part of the wall dark to frame it...

Or paint it all dark and move it to the bathroom... yeah probably not. But that chalkboard paint is fun none-the-less.

Or make it a little more modern and incorporate shelves...

OR scrap the gallery idea altogether and swap it for some extra large art...

What to do? What to do? Seeing all these great ideas makes me inspired to get something up in the walls asap. For me hanging pretty things is always the last thing on the list to do when I move. And, sadly more times than not, I never get to it, leaving my apartments and rooms feeling incomplete.

However going through all these images, I do still love my gallery wall idea the best. I have so many random pictures, art pieces, and keepsakes that I would love to have out on display. And as much as I love the idea of very large scale art, I'm not sure if my teeny-tiny studio is ready for it. But, man once I get that mansion, large scale art better watch out.

What are your thoughts about hanging up pictures in your home? Do you have any gallery wall advice of your own? Or frankly any picture hanging advice for keeping everything in line and not needing to put a thousand holes in your wall? (Is it just me?!)

LSL {Foodie Friday} - Artsy Fartsy

Now, you may have discovered some new cooking tips from Gwyennie here, even may have sampled fruits of your labor from recipes completed, here, here, and here. Then was inspired by some envy-worthy beautiful kitchen spaces here, but now you need some helpful, or funny, or just down right creative kitchen art to spruce up your space. Lucky you, this Friday's post is for you.

There's the helpful...

The creative...

The sweet....

And the funny....

So much to choose from. What's your kitchen art style? I think I am leaning towards all three. (Surprise, surprise!) Lord knows I need the helpful, and who doesn't like to laugh while doing dishes? Then there's the sweet, how can you compete with that delightful red, tan, and aqua baking print? And, it just so happens that those are my kitchen colors. So, guess who is going on Etsy later to purchase that cutie? (Hint, hint..it's me!)

Bon Appetit and Happy Weekend!

L

Lost my Marbles

Way back in the day, my Mom was an art teacher and as a kid on our summers off, we used to have the best arts and craft projects but hands down, my favorite thing to make was marbleized paper, cards and tee shirts. I think my brother and I even attempted at making twinsie-style marbleized tee shirts to wear out together. And, you know, marbleizing is actually quite easy. If you're interested in trying it, my favorite Miss Martha can help you out with that.

While I realize this trend has been around for sometime, I re-discovered it while thinking of decor ideas and plans for my new crib. (do people still use that word?) I have been spending an obscence amount of time on pinterest (who has two thumbs and is obsessed with that site...this girl!) and came across some beautiful marbleizations ideas and I immediatedly thought of my days outside in my parents' backyard making patterns.

What do you think? Or have I really lost my marbles?

So, what's your verdict on marbling? Do you want to stop what you're doing, find some paint, and give this a go, like I do? Yeah, too bad we're stuck at work.

LSL {The Lovely List} - 100 years of Fashion

Stumbled across this amazing video (thank you Isla) celebrating 100 years of style in 100 seconds. It's up there with this video as my new favorite find on Youtube. It's pretty genius.

Have any favorite YouTube videos you want to share with me?

en.cour.age

Do you ever have those days when you just need a boost or a pep talk. Something to get you going in the mornings? Well, I have stumbled upon the sweetest, most thoughtful website. It's called en.cour.age and it is basically a place you can go to for a motivating quote, some pretty pictures (you know how much I love those) and just plan ol' positive thinking.

Personally I am going to book mark it and visit it every morning for my daily "en.cour.age.ment" (see what I did there)

Small encouragements go such a long way.

LSL - {The Lovely List}

Splitscreen: A Love Story, directed by JW Griffiths

This video is an amazingly sweet love story about two people in two of my favorite cities, Paris and New York. Not only was I blown away by the quality and talent, but by the pure beauty he captured of everyday life. Such a 'lovely' love story.

Oh! and a side note, this film was shot entirely on a Nokia N8 mobile phone. Seriously.

LSL {Thoughts & Quotes} - "Mama said..."

Yes, my mama said.

I think I am having one of those "Mama said" days, or week.  Mentally I got knocked on my cute little behind and it seems to be taking me a little longer to get back on my feet. I know these days come and go. They always seem to come around when you least expect them to and at such inconvenient timing. But, that is the beauty of life, I guess. It keeps you on your toes and if you do get knocked down, you know it's just a matter of time before you're up and dancing again.

I am sharing with you my new favorite painting. I adore the colors and the messiness of it all. To me this painting is like a picture of my brain, soft and girly but a beautiful mess.

So, bear with me if I take my time. I'll be dancing again soon.
